The Fourteen Angels Foundation - History
After the Oklahoma City and the Twin Towers 9/11 tragedies, none of us will ever forget the heartrending pictures of emotionally and physically devastated policemen, firefighters and rescue workers, and their overworked K-9 partners, desperately searching through rubble for survivors—persevering, despite their own injuries and exhaustion. Then, the tragic Space Shuttle crash occurred and a nationwide debris and remains recovery effort ensued. Not long after this, as in many hometowns, a disoriented elder died from exposure, after wandering off from his home…and down our street, a 3-year-old girl disappeared from her grandfather’s house, at around the same time. Like many of us, I felt helpless in all these situations, and began training with the Red Cross. I later learned about coordinating K-9 search, rescue, and victim recovery efforts. In disaster, time is of the essence, and having local teams you can call on, can make the difference between life and death, or a successful search and family tragedy.
As a sled dog and working dog enthusiast, I knew many of my friends would feel as I did, and be passionate to lend a hand. From this knowledge, Fourteen Angels Foundation and the Arrowhead Sled Dog Races for K-9 Search and Rescue, was born. With your help, the Foundation and The Race for SAR will grow and become more successful in the coming years.
